11.info [Stadium] Lesson 0 - Preperations
As i said, this will be lesson number one, and lets start from the very beginning.

First of all, there is a very big doubt about the controls needed to play the game.
There is a global idea that a GAMEPAD is needed to be able to play this game better, and that all top players use a gamepad.
This is not TRUE! Gamepad is not necesarily better then keyboard. Lots of top players dont play with a pad.

Some of the keyboards dont accept 3 keys at the same time. In this case, you really are in disavantage.
This is because you will need very often to use GAS+BRAKE+TURN at the same time.
OK, but lets imagine you already have a nice keyboard. You should prepare to use both hands to drive with a keyboard, unless u can manage to hit 3 keys at the same timewith one hand.
I know this looks obvious, but must of the players tend to use only the directional
keys, being very hard to press BRAKE at same time as turning LEFT and pressing FORWARD.
So i recommend defining a new key for function BRAKE to use with other hand. ( for example X)

In a gamepad, there is not a special or common button configuration for it. You should define the keys as you like and feel comfortable with.
I personally play with L1 and R1 for braking and gas( playstation pad). you should also define sensitivity and try it
some times with different values to see what is the best sensitiveness suitable for you.

Other main aspect in the game, is its fluidness, i mean, its a racing game, and good graphics arent necesarily needed if
your objective is to have a nice performance on tracks. SO i STRONGLY recommend that you should give the video configuration,
the minimum needed for you to run the game fast. Off course in cases that you have a powerfull computer, you should enjoy it and have pretty graphics as well. But its very important your game runs Fluid with frames per second maximized. ( you can see the fps by tapping 0)

Ok this was a little introduction, in basis about the game.
This wont be usefull for you if you are already an advanced player.

Soon i will post some driving skills needed and best way to develop and improve your gameplaying.

it seems to happen to lots of people, also me (even with 2 different keyboards)...

my solution:
i put my left/throttle/right to the numkeys (7,/,9) and my brake somewhere else (for comfort i have it on spacekey), so i can drive with my right hand and brake with my left hand...
(i also use 1,2,3 keys with my left hand for cam change during the race)...

RE: Lesson 1
I have that problem to with arrow keys.
I couldn't burn to the right. That sucks.
But i changed brake to CTRL and now i can burn to the left and right.
CTRL is too easier to make a drifting corner.
If you have brake on down arrow you f*ck up your middle finger and can not steer that good.
--------------
EDIT:
If you dont want to set brake to CTRL set the whole keys different like:
Forward: [
Brake: "
Left: ;
Right: \

RE: Lesson 1
dont know the general age of peeps here but im old enough to have used a zx48k spectrum with a rubber keyboard. no arrow keys on that so theres no reason to keep all the control keys together. i use
Q - accel
A - brake
O - left
P - right
left alt - horn.

on a side note there is little difference between keys and pad on stadium but a massive difference in the other environments. ever wondered why you cant catch peeps on island? its because at high speed as soon as you tap a direction key the car starts to skid and you lose speed. pad boys use an analogue stick to fine tune their turns to prevent skidding and keep the speed up.

RE: [Stadium] Lesson 1
What's odd about my keyboard is that Up+Down+Right works fine, but Up+Down+Left doesn't. I've found that same issue with every other keyboard I've used.Hmm

RE: [Stadium] Lesson 1
pad is better for keyboard but for people like me only found out about them well into my TMN racing time, and they are easier to use after afew times and configuring it correcly helps alot !
i use a wired Xbox 360 which is helpfull because i also got 360 so i can use it in that aswell ! and i use A as Accell with right back button ( cos triggers don't work for some reason ) as break. i find this way easy for performing drifts and would recommend people try it !

RE: [Stadium] Lesson 1
I use a keyboard and play with one hand:

arrow up -> GAS
arrow down -> BRAKE
arrow left -> turn (left)
arrow right -> turn (right)

And it's rather easy (I think) to learn press with 3 fingers 3 different arrows. But when I'm drifting to left I can't properly press GAS and then it's a bit of slower but it doesn't matter. Drifting to right succeed well Smile
